How to Stop Breastfeeding

There is the convention of the babies' rights that is accepted by the World Health Organization. According to this document any baby aged under 4 months should have the right to get breast milk. The babies can retain the this right until they turn 2 years old. According to the opinion of the world leading pediatricians it is sensible to breastfeed your baby until it turns one or two years old. That is healthy both for the baby and the mother.

Take into consideration that th matter of brestfeeding is absolutely individual. You are recommended to follow the best practice of the World Health Organization but don't be upset or worried if some warps will take place.

Introduce additional food to your child

Since the child turns 6 months old it begins to get the additional food. That means you may start giving it some other products except the breast milk. Starting with 8 or 9 months you may replace one or two meals with the other types of food. Up to the beginning of the second year the baby may get the breast milk only in the evening, in the morning and before it is about to fall asleep. The feeding during the night is also possible. But during the day the baby should eat the other food except the breast milk.

Replace some breastfeeding session with prebiotic mixes

Because of the less amount of the breastfeeding session the amount of milk produced by the breast glandes decreases to 1 or 2 years. After 1 year the woman may replace 1 morning breast feeding with some other food. The evening breastfeeding session may also be replaced with some other type of food. That food may be the special prebiotic mixes. The special processed milk for babies is also the good choice. The whole natural milk from cows can't be offered to the children under 2 years old. The modern research show that the whole cow milk can't be digested by the most part of the people. It is connected with the lack of the natural ferments that digest lactose. That is called lactose intolerance and manifested in vomiting, stomach pains, diarrhea and dizziness. The whole cow milk may be added to the daily menu of your child when he or she stops consuming the breast milk completely. During the second year your baby may get your breast but that will have the psychological meaning, not the nutritional one.

Provide the healthy nutrition

If the mother has decided to stop feeding her baby with breasts when the baby turns 1 or 1 1/2 years old that won't present much difficulties for her. All the essential nutrients and minerals the baby gets from the other products already. To stop the natural breastfeeding process it is necessary just to stop giving the breast to the baby. It will be sensible to leave the baby for the first night with the father or grandmother. During the night the baby wants to drink but not to eat. Replace the milk with the plain water from the bottle. During the day you won't face this problem as the baby will be distracted by the new food.

  • Don't make the problem worse by combining the end of breast feeding with some stressful situations like going on vacation or moving in another house.
  • Don't Stop breastfeeding during the hot period of the year. The producing of the digestive liquids is depressed and your baby may refuse to eat anything except breast milk.
  • Don't stop breastfeeding at once. You need to do that step by step.
  • Don't try t solve the problem on your own if your baby is refusing to eat anything except breast milk for the long time.

After the age of 2 years the breast milk stops being the only source of all the nutrients for the baby. It begins to get the essential elements from the other types of food. Make sure your baby gets all the necessary nutrients from its diet plan.
