How to Remove Window Tint
Many believe that removing tint takes professional help. This is not true, you can easily remove it yourself, no need to waste money and pay to get it done, and no need to waste time by taking your car to a salon. Tinting car windows can be hard, but removing tint is actually much easier. You have to know a few tips so you can easily do it yourself without any help. You don't need many tools or much physical strength. To learn more about removing tint from car windows, read instructions below.
You will need:
- a steamer (a fabric steamer or multi-purpose steamer);
- a new sharp razor;
- some water for the steamer.
Many have a fabric steamer at home. If you don't, you can get it from a store (like Wal-Mart), you can find a cheap one for 25 $ (http://www.ebay.com/bhp/fabric-steamer). A steamer is a very convenient thing, you can use it for clothes after you remove tint. Steaming clothes is much easier than ironing, and doesn't take much time. If you are not willing to buy a steamer, borrow it from a friend, you will only need it for 1 day. Get some water into a steamer and turn it on. Wait a few seconds till the steam starts to come out. If in 30 seconds you donít see any steam, make sure you turned it on and got enough water in there. Steamers are different, and if you are not sure how to use yours, read a manual or ask a friend you borrowed it from.
Steam the top window edge
Open a car door and start applying steam to the surface of the car window. Steam the top window edge first.
Make a cut
In a few seconds take a razor and very carefully cut the film at the top of the window. Make sure you donít get the window. Steam the cut so it is easy to peel off.
Pill off the tint
In a few seconds carefully scrape the cut with your nails, once you peel off a small corner, start pulling. Pull and steam, evaporation will soften the film and it will come off. You are going to need a lot of steam, which means you will probably have to get more water in the steamer every now and then.
- Don't forget to get some more water if you notice there is less steam.
- Don't forget you have to turn on the steamer after you get water in it.
- Don't forget you have to be very careful when steaming - the steam is very hot - you don't want to burn yourself.
- Don't scratch the window with a razor (tint only) and be careful otherwise you may cut yourself.
As you see, removing window tint can be easy and even pleasant. As they say, it's easier to break than to make. Just follow the simple instructions listed above and you will remove window tint in no time. Remember to be careful and patient.
