First of all you have to remember the classic pose of a guitar player. That is quite important for the proper sounding of the musical instrument. That pose is optimal to make your hands move easily and avoid the excessive strain. Moreover you will have to practice a lot and spend the long hours in front of the music sheet so your back and neck won't hurt if you sit in the recommended manner. You will have to find a small supporting stand for your left foot. The professionals use the stand which reminds a tiny folding chair. If you don't have any you may use several thick books until you will buy a stand. Sit down on a chair and put your feet far from each other. Put the guitar between your legs. The guitar curve should rest on your left thigh. The right leg should support the guitar from the other side. In that way the tuning pins of the guitar should be located higher than your shoulders. The height of the foot stand is chosen individually. Usually 5-7 inches is enough.

Study the notes on the guitar

Remember the location of each note on the finger board. Take into consideration which open string gives this or that note. If you remember that you will face for lees difficulties in the future when you will start learning the long musical works. Each fitting has the leading note which defines its sounding and several supporting notes which add the additional tones. The fittings are denoted with the Latin letters which denote the notes as well. C- do, D- re, E- mi, F- fa, G- sol, A- la, B- si.

Learn how to play these notes

To play this or that note press the string against the necessary fret on the finger board or strike the open string. The strings on the acoustic guitar are often made not of metal but of nylon and its finger board is wider. That's why it is easier to press the strings against the finger board. As soon as you learn how to play the separate notes you may proceed with paying the scales. Increase the tempo of your playing gradually.

Practice more

Now proceed with studying the methods of playing the guitar. You may use either strumming or broken chords.

Start playing the simple musical pieces by splitting it into separate notes. Later unite the succession of the notes into a cohesive whole.

  • Don't neglect the rhythm. Use the metronome.
  • Avoid skipping the lessons. Practice regularly.
  • Don't give up playing the guitar when your fingers start hurting. Later they will stop hurting.

The main advantage of the acoustic guitar is the fact that it is one of the instruments that are easy to master. Unlike the violin the finger board of the acoustic guitar is marked so you don't have the outstanding ear for music to hear precisely what note your are playing.
