How to Order At Starbucks
Starbucks is the largest coffee shop company in the world. The company has a coffeehouse chain based in the United States of America. Even though Starbucks' birth place is the US, Starbucks stores are open in 61 countries all over the world. Mike Kroeger, the famous Nickelback's bass player, used to work in Starbucks and that's where he came up with the name for the band - when he gave change, he used to say "Here is your nickel back". Ordering coffee and other drinks at Starbucks can be tricky: there is a lot of options, there is a secret menu, and there is a service for ordering coffee online.
Pick a beverage
To order something first you have to decide what kind of drink you want to have. Then you have to decide:
- How much caffeine do you want in your coffee?
- What size beverage do you want?
- What do you want added to your coffee / chocolate / tea?
There are the following caffeine options: espresso shots are the strongest, you can choose 1, 2, 3 or 4 shots (single / double / triple or quad espresso). If you just want a nice and smooth cup of coffee, you can have a latter or cappuccino. These drinks are based on espresso.
Pick a syrup
You can have a Starbucks worker add some kind of syrup to your drink:
- Regular syrups that you can choose: Vanilla, Hazelnut, Mocha, White Chocolate Mocha, Cinnamon Dolce, Toffee Nut, Raspberry, Classic, Peppermint, Caramel, Chai.
- You can choose one of the sugar free syrups: Vanilla, Hazelnut, Cinnamon Dolce, Caramel.
- Or other special syrups: Gingerbread, Pumpkin Spice, Sugar Free Peppermint, Caramel Brulee, Coconut.
Choose milk or cream
Not only can you choose a sugar-free beverage, you can ask them to add non-fat milk to it and you will get yourself a deictic drink.
When ordering coffee / chocolate you have to name the ingredients - describe your beverage: what size, how much caffeine, sugar, cream, syrup, and whether or not you want your drink stirred. Tell them whether you want to have coffee right in the shop or you want it "to go".
Starbucks has a thing that is known as "secret menu", i. e. you can order stuff off the menu. Some Starbucks workers don't even know what "secret menu" is, because it is not exactly a secret. It's just that you can order a special drink by naming the ingredients they have but don't usually mix. Name the ingredients and ask them to "create" your drink. You can buy Starbucks coffee online and make it at home.
When ordering from a Secret menu, don't use the actual names of the drinks - they may fail to understand what you are talking about. Just name the ingredients they have and ask them to make a drink for you. You can google those ingredients and see what you can order.
