How to Measure Shoe Size

Introduction

Measuring your feet is easy, what hard is – figuring out your size. Shoes that go under the same size may in fact be of different sizes, it depends on a brand. Here we will tell you all you need to know about measuring your feet and choosing shoes of the right size. We will also share an easy way to convert US sizes into UK and other European sizes so you never forget how it's done.

Do's

Measure your foot

Take an A4 sheet of paper and a pencil, step on that sheet of paper and outline either foot. Measure the length and the width (the widest part) of your foot. In the table below you will find your size. In those tables only US sizes are represented, if you are a woman from UK, subtract 2 from the US size; if you are a man from UK – subtract 1. If you are a European woman – add 31 to the US size; if you are a European man – add 32.

Don'ts

  • Don't measure your shoe size barefoot: always wear socks, especially if you want to buy boots for winter, otherwise you can get boots of a small size and won't be able wear them with socks.
  • When measuring width of your foot, don't measure width of the heel, measure the widest part.

Conclusion

Choose your shoes wisely, and try not to order them online - you never know whether or not they are going to fit. As mentioned above, a lot depends on a brand and you don't want to risk it; always try boots / shoes on before you buy them, and make sure they fit perfectly.
