How to Marinate Chicken

Introduction

If you think of the most popular type of meat which the majority of people use for cooking, you'll probably come up with a conclusion that it is chicken. Indeed, chicken meet is tender enough so people of all ages are able to consume and digest its fibers (including toddlers), it can be used for making both first and second courses and it perfectly goes with the majority of the sauces.

If you want to have chicken for the second course, you can roast it, bake it in the over, grill it or make chicken barbeque. If any of the latter mention recipes it is better to use chicken that is already marinated. If you don't know how to marinate chicken, pick one of the recipes given below.

Do's

For using any of the following recipes you'll need washed chicken pieces, they should be already cut for the way you want to further cook it.

Kefir marinade

To marinade 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken you'll need:

1 cup of kefir;

1 teaspoon of vinegar;

spices, seasonings to taste;

salt and pepper to taste

Guidelines:

Add vinegar, spices, salt and pepper to kefir, mix it up with a spoon. Pour chicken over with kefir, put it in the fridge for 2 hours. If you want your chicken to be more tender - leave it for up to 6-8 hours.

Marinade with sparkling water

To marinade 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken you'll need:

16 oz (½ liter) of sparkling water;

2 tablespoons of vegetable or olive oil;

1 teaspoon of vinegar;

spices, seasonings to taste;

salt and pepper to taste

Guidelines:

  • Add all the ingredients to chicken, mix chicken thoroughly.
  • Pour chicken over with sparkling water and put it in the fridge for up to 12 hours.

Honey mustard marinade

To marinade 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken you'll need:

2 tablespoons of mustard Dijon style;

2 tablespoons of mayo;

2 tablespoons of honey;

1 tablespoons of virgin olive oil;

salt and pepper to taste

Guidelines:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl so the texture gets even and pour it over chicken. Mix everything thoroughly, put it in the fridge and keep it for up to 12 hours.

Soy sauce marinade

To marinade 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken you'll need:

150 ml of soy sauce;

2 teaspoons of honey;

grated ginger, to taste (up to 1 tablespoon)

3 cloves of garlic, chopped

Guidelines:

Warm up a bit honey if it's too thick, add it, soy sauce and chopped garlic to chicken, mix everything and put it in the fridge for minimum 4 hours (you can keep it for up to 12 hours).

Orange marinade

To marinade 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken you'll need:

3 oranges;

1 teaspoon of ground paprika;

2 tablespoons of olive or vegetable oil;

salt and pepper to taste

Guidelines:

  • Wash oranges, grate their peels using the smallest holes of the grater. Squeeze orange juice and throw away the leftover flesh.
  • Add orange juice, orange peels, paprika, oil and salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything thoroughly and put it in the fridge for at least 8 hours ( 12 hours is a preference).

Don'ts

  • Don't use too much spices if you are cooking meat for kids or people who are intolerant to too spicy food.
  • Don't put more than 1 tablespoon of vinegar per 2.2 pounds (1 kilo) of chicken! You can easily destroy the taste of it if you pour too much!

You can use any parts of a chicken when it comes to marinating, pick it depending on the meal that you are planning to cook from the marinated chicken. If you want to have your chicken meat to have more concentrated taste than keep the marinade for longer period of time. You can also add onion rings to any of the marinades if you want to marinade onion along with chicken.
