How to Make Slime

Slime is a disgusting semi-liquid substance that can be very fun to play with. It feels funny in your hands, it is slimy and stretchy and every little kid likes to play with it. You donít have to buy slime for your children - you can make it at home. It is not a cake so it doesnít require many ingredients. There are different kinds of slime and in this article we offer two recipes you can choose from. The first recipe is the easiest one and you probably already have everything you need for it, all you have to do is start.

Cornstarch Slime (Borax and glue-free)

  • 2 cup (400ml) cornstarch;
  • 1 cup (200 ml) water;
  • a few drops of food dye.

Make batter

It is pretty easy: first you have to combine water and cornstarch. But before you do that, bring water to a boil and pour it in a bowl. Let it cool down a little bit and add food dye. Add water to cornstarch mixing the batter as you do so.

Mix the batter

Properly mix the batter with your hands (water should be warm by then, not hot) till it becomes of the right consistency: slimy and ropy. Make sure there are no clumps or anything.

Finish making slime

Once mixture cools down you can take it out of the bowl and see if it sticks to your hands. If something is wrong, start over after adjusting proportions.

Slime with Borax & Glue

  • a few drops of food dye;
  • 1 tbsp. Borax powder;
  • some water;
  • ice cream sticks;
  • 1/6 a cup white glue

Water & Borax powder

Combine one cup of water and a tablespoon of Borax powder, mixing it as you do so. You have to mix it properly and make sure it dissolves. Put the cup aside, and let it sit.

Water & glue

Combine glue and tree tablespoons of water. Stir well to get a smooth batter. Add a few drops of food dye to the mixture and mix it again. Make sure there are no clumps.

Combine batters

Take one spoon of a batter from step 2 (water, food dye and glue) and add it to batter from step 1 (water and Borax powder). Mix it up and set aside. In a minute your slime will be ready.

  • Donít start working with boiling-hot water;
  • Donít be afraid to add more glue / cornstarch if mixture is too liquid. Even if you ruin it, it wonít take much time to make more.
  • Donít use the second method before you try the first one (it works best).

Anyone can make a slime, your children can even do it themselves! In this case they can skip boiling water and simply mix all the ingredients to get this funny toy. Keep it away from paper (including wallpaper) as some slimes leave spots.
