How to Make Nail Polish
Modern beauty industry offers a wide variety of different supplies of all shades, colors, and sizes. Unfortunately, it doesn't make them cheap and also doesn't bring this variety to our doorstep. What if you need some definite nail polish color urgently but can't go shopping to buy a necessary supply? Or, what is even more upsetting, you know where you can buy it and have a lot of time to do that, but don't want to spend money? The solution is fairly simple: all you need to do is make your own nail polish at home! Thus, you can enjoy a desired color, save money, and satisfy your handmade cravings.
Another good thing about making custom nail polish is the fact that many colored polishes contain various harmful elements, such as formaldehyde and toluene. These elements are dangerous and proven to cause cancer if you contact with them too often. Of course, your nails' thickness protects your body from these elements, but using something that is so potentially harmful is not nice at all. Making nail polish at home is a good alternative to dangerous beauty supplies. So, let's get it started.
Clear nail polish
Eyeshadows of different colors or blushers;
Sheet of paper;
Get the right nail polish
Basically, what you want to do is color your clear nail polish with eyeshadows. It's a good idea to use straightening nail polish or base coat - thus, you kill two birds with one shot: strengthen your brittle fingernails and make a custom nail polish of a desired color. Also, make sure it's water-based. You can use matt white nail polish to get a more solid color.
Choose the eyeshadow of a desired color. If you use a solid-block eyeshadow, put it in a plastic bag, place it on a flat surface, and use a roller pin over it to crush the eyeshadow. You can also use powdered or liquid eyeshadows to skip this step.
Mix eyeshadows and nail polish
Then, take a sheet of paper and fold it to make a little funnel. You can use a regular funnel if you have one of a proper size. So, insert the funnel into the bottle and pour the eyeshadow inside. Feel free to add spangles for extra shining. You can also add 1 or 2 tiny metal balls to ease the process of mixing. Close the bottle and give it a good shake. Keep shaking until it's evenly colored. Open the bottle and check the brush for lumps. If you see any lumps, close the bottle and shake again.
Don't use expensive eyeshadows
Their quality has nothing to do with the quality of your nail polish, so you'd better use cheap eyeshadows to save some money.
Don't use brand new nail polish
You want the bottle to be half-empty.
Of course, you can't make nail polish from scratch unless you have a home lab and a master in chemistry. However, this method helps you save a lot of money and create the desired shades of any color without wasting hours on shopping.
