How to Become a Freemason
Becoming a Freemason has been a dream of any religious man with a healthy amount of conceit and the desire to be a chosen one, change the world, and know the secrets of the Universe. However, not everyone is suited to membership in the organization. You need to be a perfect model of a noble man and be able to prove your being a good candidate in order to join the Lodge. That's what you need to do to become a Freemason:
Know what it takes to be a Freemason
To join a Masonic Lodge, you are supposed to be an adult male theist who isn't a criminal and doesn't have serious problems like huge debts etc. You are also supposed to be a man of high moral character. Faith is one of the key factors: you are supposed to believe in God, but the name of this God doesn't really matter. You just need to believe in existence of the Architect of the Universe, be he Christ, Allah, Buddha, or little green men.
Find a way to join
There are 2 basic ways to become a Freemason: you can either ask your Mason friends or relatives to help you join the community or contact your local Lodge individually. If you know a Mason, feel free to ask him to talk to the community and say a word for you. If you are a good candidate, they would make an appointment for you in the nearest future. If you don't know any Masons in your area, you can go to google and find the Masonic headquarters in your neighborhood.
Set up a meeting with the members of the Lodge
Talk about your desire to join them. You need this meeting to fill in a petition which is pretty similar to job application where you need to 2 references from 2 members of the Lodge. Send the petition back to the Lodge and wait for their decision.
Wait for the decision
The decision is made by unanimous affirmative. If you were rejected, feel free to try again after a while. If the members of the Lodge vote for you, they would contact you and send you the invitation. After that, you become a member of the Lodge.
Obtain the degrees
There are 3 degrees: The Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. After that, you are officially become a Freemason.
- Don't try to cheat when you fill in the petition or talk to the members of the Lodge. Usually, they conduct a thorough background check to make sure you take the idea of Freemasonry seriously and are a person of a high moral caliber.
- Don't apply if you are a woman, used to take drugs or have alcohol issue, have bad criminal records, debts, or abused your family.
- Don't show disrespect. Due to lots of negative references in books and on the TV, Freemasonry is oftentimes associated with a group of snobbish men who want to take over the world. If you are obsessed with conspiracy theories, you'd better stay away from Freemasonry.
Becoming a Freemason is a unique way to become a part of one of the oldest and most powerful fraternities in history. Luckily, it's not that difficult to do these days. Just make sure you really want this and meet the requirements.
